I loved waking up to Shakeer this morning. Especially after the night we had. I hadn’t planned on us taking it there, but we’re grown, and things just happened to flow that way.

“Good morning, baby doll.”

“Good morning, boo.”

“How’d you sleep?”

“Pretty good. You?”

“Real good with you in the bed with me,” he said.

“That’s a good answer.”

“It’s the truth. But check this out, I’m hungry.”

“I am too.”

“I brought a few groceries so we can cook breakfast if you’re up to it.”

“I am. Let’s go.”

While we cooked, I washed my clothes so I would have something to put on then we cooked breakfast. We made french toast and bacon then sat outside on the balcony to enjoy the ocean view. While we enjoyed breakfast, he asked me what I had planned today.

“I was going to visit my folks,” I said.

“I’ll roll with you. And we can stop by my folks too.”

“Okay.”

“You had no other plans?”

“No. Why wassup?”

“I have this house for another night. I’d love for you to stay with me again.”

“Sounds good. I need to go get my car and some clothes. I do have to work in the morning.”

“We’ll stop by your place after we visit our folks.”

We pulled up to my parents’ house and I wasn’t even surprised to see the house was already decorated. My mom wrapped the white poles on the porch with red ribbon for a candy cane effect. Garland hung around the door decked out with red and white bulbs. There was a matching wreath on the door, and she even had two small trees sitting on each side of the door. My mom was the reason I loved Christmas and decorating so much. As a matter of fact, I need to decorate this week.

When I opened the door, my mom completely ignored me and hugged Shakeer.

“Umm, hello to you too, Mom.”

“I see you all the time. Haven’t seen Shakeer in a while.”

“You’re lying. You saw him when he got out here.”

My mom looked at Shakeer and tilted her head to one side.

“I told her,” he said.

“And why didn’t you tell me anything, Mom?”

“Because that would’ve ruined the surprise. Plus, I know how to not tell you something.”

“Clearly.”

“When do you leave for Italy?” she asked.

“In about two weeks,” I replied.

“Good timing since you’ll be off until the top of the year,” my mom added.

“Exactly. I’m glad y’all worked together.”

“You know I love Shakeer,” my mom stated.

“And I love you too,” he replied.

“Anyway. Where is my dad?”

“He ran to the store.”

“Okay. I’ll have to come back and see him then.”

We chit chatted for a little bit then went down to see Shakeer’s parents.

“Chanteeeee!”

His mom yelled as soon as she saw me getting out of the car. She actually ran to the car and hugged me.

“It’s so good to see you. Especially with my son,” Helen said.

“It’s nice to see you too,” I replied.

Helen had also decorated already. Her theme was black and white. She had three black deer silhouette statues in the yard. Black and white ribbon was laced through the garland on the stairs leading up to the house.
